Labor Day Weekend Adventures

This past labor day Matt and I decided to go on a mini backpacking camping trip. We adventured to a place called pittsburg lake in American Fork canyon. We borrowed matt's coworkers truck and off-roaded to the trail head that sits at the bottom of mineral basin. The lake sits on the back side of the Snowbird and Alta ski resorts. It was absolutely beautiful.

After about and hour drive on rocky and dirt roads we made it to the trail head around 6:30 pm. The hike up the lake is 1.5 miles. Even though it is a short hike dont let it fool you, the trail is straight up hill the whole time.  It was well worth the hike as we pulled up to the lake around 7:15. The great thing about the hike is it is steep up enough to keep the casual campers away. So we only shared the place with one other group who was on the other side of the lake.

Matt wanted to make it a true camping experience so we only brought easy camping foods. After getting our campsite settled we were able sit down and get something to eat around 8:30. Dinner for the evening was a cup of noodles. I cannot tell you the last time I ate that stuff, maybe 6th grade? but that night it never tasted so good.

We had a great time exploring the lake and sitting and talking by the fire. I am not going to lie I was a little afraid of the thought of bears or other creatures finding our way into our campsite, but Matt being such the strong guy he is made sure to protect us :).

Here are some photos from our adventure:

Ready to go!

All in all it was a great labor day weekend! Can't wait for the fall colors!
